This is the standard optical drive that Puget desktops are equipped with. It can read and write both CDs and DVDs, which covers the needs of most users. If you want to also be able to watch Blu-ray movies or to 'burn' Blu-ray discs, then you will likely want to upgrade.
Please note that it does *not* have Lightscribe capability, as some previous models had. Lightscribe technology has been discontinued, so you will see it dropping from all drives across all brands.

I agree with Oscar. If you absolutely need one, get one, but otherwise, I'd recommend going without. And preferably, I'd say to go with an external DVD or Blu-ray drive and just hook it up when needed.

Not all reviews are positive & here's one of them. There isn't anything particularly wrong with this optical. This review is aimed more towards opticals in general. I am not really sure why they still exist. They're loud, run hot, & look terrible. Just about everything nowadays is downloadable from the internet & if you absolutely need an optical, I would recommend buying an external. That way you can put away (or in the trash can) when you're down with it.
