Background on Intel 14th Gen Core Series CPUs (Raptor Lake Refre
14th Gen Intel Core Processors, code-named Raptor Lake Refresh, are an incremental update to their consumer CPU line with minor boosts to clock speed and some additional "efficiency" cores on the i7 14700K. These chips are still built using the Intel 7 manufacturing process, which saves a lot of space compared to the 12th Gen and older models, allowing for more circuitry to be packed into the die. Intel also continues to utilize a split chip design with the main "performance cores" for active workloads and "efficiency cores" running at lower clock speeds for background tasks. In heavily-threaded applications, both sets of cores can work together to improve overall processing speed.
