AMD Ryzen 9000: Performance vs Previous Generations

Posted on August 19, 2024 by Evan Lagergren

AMD’s new Ryzen 9000 series of processors offer moderate performance improvements over Ryzen 7000. But how do they compare to Ryzen 5000 and 3000?

RealityCapture 1.0.3 HT / SMT Performance Analysis

Posted on July 2, 2020 by William George

We’ve observed that some photogrammetry applications seem to perform better with lower core count processors, so we wanted to look at whether Hyperthreading and Simultaneous Multithreading could be negatively impacting performance in these programs. Next up is RealityCapture.

DaVinci Resolve Studio CPU performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by Matt Bach

While DaVinci Resolve is known for its ability to leverage the power of your GPU, the CPU is often just as important, especially if you are not heavily utilizing noise reduction or OpenFX. The AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs are already a great choice for Resolve, but are the 16 CPU cores on the new Ryzen 9 3950X worth the increased price?

Premiere Pro CPU performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by Matt Bach

Ever since the launch of the 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs, AMD and Intel have been trading blows when it comes to Premiere Pro performance. With the launch of the Ryzen 9 3900X, however, will AMD to take a solid lead over Intel?

After Effects CPU performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by Matt Bach

AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs did very well at launch, but Intel managed to maintain a small performance lead in After Effects. With the new Ryzen 9 3950X, however, AMD has added an additional four cores to their consumer processor line. Is that enough to allow AMD to take the performance crown in After Effects?

Lightroom Classic CPU performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by Matt Bach

When AMD launched their 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs, they took a commanding lead over Intel in terms of performance in Lightroom Classic. Now, AMD has released a new CPU called the Ryzen 9 3950X which increases the number of cores available on that platform to 16 physical cores. Will this allow AMD to extend their lead even further, or is Lightroom Classic not able to utilize those additional cores?

Photoshop CPU performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by Matt Bach

With the 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs, AMD was able to close the gap with Intel in lightly threaded applications like Photoshop. Now, AMD has released a new CPU called the Ryzen 9 3950X which increases the number of cores available on that platform to 16 physical cores. But does that actually help at all in Photoshop?

Cinema 4D R20 CPU Rendering Performance: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Posted on November 14, 2019 by William George

AMD’s Ryzen 3rd generation processors launched a few months ago, with both more cores and higher per-core performance than previous models in that series. Now AMD has released the top-end chip in this family, the Ryzen 9 3950X, with even more cores! In this article we will take a look at how it stacks up to a few other AMD and Intel processors in this application, focusing exclusively on rendering performance measured via Cinebench R20.
